Around February 2022, Nigerian singer Oxlade faced a significant scandal when his intimate videos and a KPekus tape became public.

Now, over a year later, Oxlade decided to open up a bit more about the tape scandal and the impact it had on him during a new interview with Tea With Tay. In this interview, Oxlade shared some revealing insights.
Reflecting on the period when the tape leaked and how he had to perform “Ku Lo Sa” two days after the scandal broke, Oxlade described his state of mind at the time.
He felt depressed, rejected, like an outcast, and emotionally drained. He performed the song at the Colors show, but if you watch the performance closely, you’ll notice that he didn’t even open his eyes. He was in his own world.
Just two days after that, he decided to enter rehab to address the emotional toll the scandal had taken on him.
Oxlade emphasized that he didn’t feel the need to explain himself or the circumstances surrounding the scandal, much like many people in similar situations.
He firmly believed that explanations weren’t required, especially when humanity is full of its own imperfections and doesn’t feel the need to explain its own shortcomings.
When asked about how the scandal affected him personally, Oxlade disclosed that he not only lost friendships but also endorsement deals. Brands informed him that it wasn’t healthy to be associated with him during that period.
However, he recognized that this is the nature of the game – when someone is in the spotlight, people want to be part of their success, but when things go awry, they tend to distance themselves. Oxlade viewed this as a valuable lesson.
He understood that no matter how talented you are, you can face a fall, but you can also rise again. That’s the unpredictability of life.
